Leadership Structure

The United Methodist Church is built on shared leadership—bringing clergy and laity together to guide the mission of the church.

Here at First United Methodist Church of Dothan, that structure starts locally and connects us to a much larger global church.

Our Local Church

FUMC Dothan

Our church is a charge conference, meaning our leadership and decision-making happen right here within our church.

Our pastors, staff, and lay leaders work together to guide ministry, care for our congregation, and serve our community.

Our Conference

Alabama-West Florida Conference

FUMC Dothan is part of the Alabama-West Florida Conference, a network of United Methodist churches across our region.

  • Bishop: Bishop L. Jonathan Holston

  • District Superintendent: Rev. Dr. Sterling Boykin

The conference supports local churches, provides leadership and resources, and helps connect us to the broader mission of the church.

 The Bigger Picture

A Global Church

Beyond our local church and conference, we are part of a worldwide connection of United Methodist churches.

The General Conference is the global decision-making body that helps guide the direction, mission, and teachings of the church.

Being part of The United Methodist Church means we are connected—locally and globally—as we work together to make disciples of Jesus Christ and serve the world.
