Palm Sunday 2026 - Everything you need to know!

Published March 20, 2026

Palm Sunday is one of the most meaningful and joy-filled days in the life of our church, and we would love for you to be part of it.

On Sunday, March 29, we invite you and your family to join us at First United Methodist Church Dothan as we gather to worship, celebrate, and begin our journey through Holy Week. From waving palm branches to sharing in powerful moments of worship and community, this is a day filled with tradition, reflection, and celebration of all Christ has done.

Here’s everything you need to know to plan your day:

Morning Worship - We will continue our Lenten sermon series, Prodigal God, as we learn more about the gift of salvation and the feast of our Father.

Service Times:
  • Traditional Worship – 8:30 & 11:00 a.m. (Sanctuary)

  • The Bridge (Contemporary Worship) – 8:55 a.m. (Fellowship Hall)

Our children will also help lead us in worship by singing during the 8:55 and 11 a.m. services—always a special and uplifting part of the day.

Food Drive Opportunity

On Palm Sunday, we will be collecting food for our In Christ’s Name Ministry. If you’d like to participate, you can find a list of needed items and drop-off details at fumcdothan.org/inchristsname. Your generosity helps us serve neighbors in need right here in our community.

Palm Sunday Reenactment

At 10 a.m., during the Sunday School hour, we’ll gather on the front lawn for a reenactment of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This meaningful experience brings our church family together in a powerful way and has become a beloved highlight of the day.

Afternoon Family Fun & Egg Hunts

Come back in the afternoon and enjoy time together on the front lawn—don’t forget to bring blankets and lawn chairs!

At 4 p.m., children will be guided to age-specific areas for Easter egg hunts. Each child will receive a special goody bag, including a coupon for a free shaved ice from the Purple Penguin! They will be on-site serving refreshing treats (available for purchase for parents, too!).

Be sure to stop by for photos with a special guest—Peter Rabbit!

Evening Fellowship & Worship

After the egg hunts, stick around for a relaxed and meaningful evening together:

  • Enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs on the lawn

  • Worship with The Promise Band

  • Take part in our Annual Cross Raising, a powerful tradition that marks the beginning of Holy Week

Palm Sunday is more than just a day on the calendar—it’s the beginning of a sacred journey. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate, worship, and prepare our hearts for Easter.

We can’t wait to see you there.
