FUMC is Gearing up for Back to School!

There is something special about the start of a new school year. Fresh notebooks, packed backpacks, familiar routines, and new possibilities remind us that every season brings opportunities to learn, grow, and begin again.
As backpacks are packed and classrooms prepare to welcome students, we also give thanks for God's faithful presence. Whether this year brings a new classroom, a new teacher, a new Bible, or a renewed commitment to growing in faith, we trust that God goes before us, guiding each step along the way.
This August, First United Methodist Church invites the entire church family to celebrate the beginning of a new season together.
Growing Together in Faith
The journey begins on August 1 with our annual Supply & Serve School Supply Bash, a community outreach that equips hundreds of local students with backpacks, school supplies, and encouragement as they prepare for the year ahead. It's a tangible expression of Christ's love, made possible through the generosity and service of our church family.
The excitement continues with Promotion Sunday on August 9, as children and students move into their new Sunday School classes. It is an exciting milestone that marks another year of learning, friendships, and growing as disciples of Christ.
On August 12, families are invited to Blessing of the Backpacks, a special evening as we pray over students, teachers, administrators, school staff, and the backpacks that will accompany them throughout the year. Together, we'll ask God's protection, wisdom, and encouragement for everyone serving in our schools.
One of our church's most meaningful traditions follows on August 16 with the Third Grade Bible Presentation. All third graders are invited to receive an Adventure Bible during worship. Receiving a Bible is a significant milestone in a child's faith journey, reminding them that God's Word is a faithful guide for every season of life.
A New Season for Everyone
Back-to-school isn't just for children and students. It's also a wonderful time for adults to reconnect and grow in faith.
Pastor David's Bible Study begins on August 18, offering a fresh opportunity to study Scripture, build relationships, and deepen your walk with Christ.
The following evening, Midweek Recharge returns on August 19, bringing Wednesday nights back to life with dinner, fellowship, Bible studies, and activities for every generation. In the midst of busy schedules, it's a chance to pause, reconnect with one another, and be refreshed.
Looking Ahead with Hope
Every new school year is filled with anticipation. There are lessons to learn, friendships to strengthen, and opportunities to share Christ's love in our homes, schools, workplaces, and community.
As we begin this new season together, may we embrace each day with grateful hearts, trusting that God is already at work in the journey ahead. We look forward to growing in faith, celebrating new beginnings, and discovering all that God has in store for our church family this fall.
