while staying 6 feet apart
Below are some ministry updates on what FUMC Dothan is doing during this time of social distancing. Even though we can’t physically meet in the church building, here are some tangible ways we are helping the community, gathering as a church family, and reaching out to others. We are finding ways to gather online for Sunday School and other Bible studies. We’re still incorporating some recreational activities, blessing our healthcare workers by sewing and donating masks, and more! Read more below about how we’re #inthistogether.
We can’t wait until we’re all back under the same roof together!

Worship Services and Age-Specific Ministry Areas
Sunday morning worship services have changed. Since you can’t come to 1380 W. Main St., we have been offering other options. We are currently live-streaming both the Sanctuary and Bridge services at 8:55 am on Sundays. These live streams are visible on YouTube, Facebook, and our church website. Visit fumcdothan.org/worship-online to see links for each week’s worship opportunities. Please keep checking the website for the latest updates on Sunday morning worship as things change.
We have several Sunday School classes who are meeting virtually on Sundays through Zoom. It is vitally important during this time of distancing ourselves from others, that we still remain “close” by connecting through talking, pictures, social media, etc. Thank you to those who have implemented this for our church family! To protect everyone, we have removed the direct links to these online classes, but if you do not have a link, please email email@example.com for access. He will be happy to help connect you!
Our youth are having Sunday School Zoom meetings on Sunday mornings at 10am, as close to normal as it can be. We are also meeting virtually on Zoom on Sunday and Wednesday evenings for Bible study and have been having a great turnout!
In June, we had a parade as our Senior Send-off and 7th Grade Welcome.
We’ve had Virtual Olympics, an Instagram contest with CovKIDS, and are doing weekly youth-led devotionals.
Weekly Bible study/activity materials for tweens are located on the website for personal study at home. Lynn is providing a weekly Bible story video for students to watch on the Tweens page. Remember to check back every week for a new story, and activity sheet.
Sonia is sending mail each Monday morning with sweet goodies and an activity to strength your faith in God. We call it “Marvelous Monday Mailings”!
We are posting printable pages on the website for Sunday School materials. Each week, new fun praise and movement songs are posted on our page here and children can watch their Sunday School lesson by video.
Children were “egged” with activity bags before Easter so they could have fun from home.
Lee Anne is sending mail each Monday morning with sweet goodies and an activity to strength your faith in God. We call it “Marvelous Monday Mailings”!
Other Ministry Areas / Special Needs During COVID-19
Since March, we have released 75+ short devotional video moments from the clergy and staff here at FUMC Dothan. These are sent through our email subscription list, posted on Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as on our church website. We hope that they will be a blessing to you while we are unable to gather together in person.
We currently have a ministry in place to assist individuals who are at high risk with special needs they may have. This includes shopping for groceries, prescriptions, or other urgent needs. We want to help you stay safe at home if we can. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to make a request.
As of June 22, we have reopened our cardio room and weight room! Reservations are required and you can find out more info at our Recreation Ministry page.
Our Recreation ministry is still offering Boot Camps via Zoom twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays. Email email@example.com for information to join.
Ryan is also holding his Wednesday Night Virtual Bible Study. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for information to join.
We had a wonderful time at the Respite Caregiver parade in May!
Katie sends weekly emails with activity suggestions, devotions, trivia, sing-a-long music, and exercise. We are calling and sending cards to keep in touch, and are eager to be together again soon.
The Caregiver Support Group is currently meeting via Zoom on Thursdays at 10am. Email email@example.com for details on how to join these meetings.
Weekday Children’s Ministry is Now Open Again!
We are so excited that as of June 22, our doors opened to all of our returning students. We have implemented many new policies to keep our children, staff, and their families as safe as possible. Find out more about our re-opening on the Weekday Ministry page.
We currently have spots available in our 4P and Kindergarten classes for the 2020-2021 school year that begins in August. For more information or to enroll, please call the Weekday office at 334.793.2179.
The first day of school for our preschoolers and kindergarteners is Monday, August 17th! We are so excited about what this new year has in store, even with the uncertainties before us.
We have removed a tree that was causing roof damage, and had painters touch up the walls and other areas in the sanctuary. We’re also touching up paint in the Fellowship Hall entryway, and have a team installing new and improved thermostat controls to provide a more efficient environment.
When you return, you will notice the beautiful freshly-waxed floors.
We have cleaned and helped prepare the Weekday Children’s building for the return of those staff members and children.
We are continually sanitizing all spaces, and even deep cleaning while there are fewer people in the church buildings.
The Bread of Life ministry packaged and delivered 340 bags of ready-to-eat food to Selma Street for children to have over Easter weekend.
The first week of May, we packed 150 bags for food-insecure children at Girard Primary School.
If you would like to be involved with this ministry, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have had the opportunity to purchase new technology and equipment to enable us to live stream the Bridge service which we never did before COVID-19. We were simply posting the audio of the sermon on Mondays. Now we are able to provide you with live streams to view at home, or even away from home. They’re also available in 3 different ways (see Worship Services above).
We are working to upgrade our software for our worship services also, which will provide us new opportunities that we are excited about!
We have purchased new equipment to improve our video capabilities for highlighting ministry areas, announcement videos, etc. in the future as well.
