This advent season, as we await the birth of our Savior, let’s reflect by serving others as Jesus has called us to do. Think of Mary and Joseph. They gathered what they had and traveled to Bethlehem to be counted in the census. What would they eat? Would they be warm? What did they need for themselves? What would they need for a baby?
We are blessed to be a blessing, and we’re excited to join you as we bless others who may need an extra gift this year! All items will be donated to organizations right here in our community who help the needy. We will have a different focus each week. Simply bring the items to collection boxes placed in the Church office and in the Children’s Ministry lobby.
We encourage you to discuss these things with your family and pray with them for those in need around us.
Week of Sunday, December 1: WHAT WOULD THEY EAT?
Bring items for hungry children in our community. They will be donated to a local school that packages and disperses them to those in need. These items need to be “ready to eat” items such as granola bars, cereal bars, apple sauce, fruit cups, Easy Mac, ravioli cups, Ramen Noodles, individual size cereal boxes, peanut butter or cheese crackers, canned meats with a pop tab, oatmeal, and grits.
Pray for the families in our community who are living with food insecurity.
Week of Sunday, December 8: WHAT DID THEY NEED FOR WARMTH?
Bring hats, gloves, scarves, socks, and underwear for the United Methodist Children’s Home, who has helped transform the lives of thousands of hurting children since 1890. Consider all ages and genders, please.
Pray for those who have little or no shelter from the cold.
Week of Sunday, December 15: WHAT WOULD THEY NEED FOR THEMSELVES?
Bring travel-size toiletry items for The Harbor. Examples include toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, razors, shower gel, soap, feminine hygiene products, and combs.
Pray for those who don’t have access to basic care items.
Week of Sunday, December 22: WHAT WOULD THEY NEED FOR A BABY?
Bring diapers, wipes, bottles, diaper rash cream, baby blankets, and any other baby essentials for Wiregrass Hope Group. The mission of Wiregrass Hope Group is to share the hope of Jesus Christ, promote human life, and care for people through pregnancy resources, biblical counseling, and relationship education.
Pray for those who are learning to care for their infants and toddlers and struggle to provide for them.
