Children's Ministry

First United Methodist Church has a long tradition of molding lives through children's Sunday school as well as various other Children's activities. We provide a fun and safe learning environment that will help them grow in thier faith journey all the days of their lives. Studies show that children learn more and better when they are given the opportunity for multiple learning styles.

First United Methodist Church has invested in multi-faceted learning opportunities for our children. Your child will learn the principles of the Christian faith through art, music & movement, drama, puppets, stories, computers, and yes - even games!

Other Children's Ministry Components

Children's Church
Children are always welcome in worship. They are given a special children's page with colored pencils and activity sheet when they enter the sanctuary, and they are invited forward for a children's message during the service. During the school year, 4 year-olds through 2nd grade children are invited to participate in our Children’s Church program.  After children’s moments in the 11:00 Worship service, the children leave together through the left hand door at the front of the sanctuary. They are then instructed  by volunteer parent leaders.  Preschool (4 years and Kindergarten) participate in hands-on activities in room 1228.  Elementary age (1st—2nd grade) are learning about things we do in “Big” Church in room 1227.

SonShine Time is a fun time of fellowship for 4 year olds (by September 1) and Kindergarteners.  SonShine Time meets on Wednesdays from 3:30 – 5:00 pm.

Purpose/Goals:
This evolving ministry, which began in 2001, is striving to seek a balance between a highly structured learning environment and a loosely run “play date” atmosphere.

One of the goals of SonShine Time is to teach God’s word in an age appropriate manner.  Although your child might already be attending Sunday School, SonShine Time offers these children an opportunity to learn more about God and our church in a casual, fun setting.

The SonShine Singers choir is a part of this ministry.  Rose Covert leads music with the help of parent volunteers.  Remember, your child needs to attend choir practice in order to sing in the choir.  The children sing in church several times a year, as well as participate in Christmas and Spring programs.
